Objectives :

The concept of "self-healing materials" in the field of fuel cells has been proposed for glasses used as sealants in high temperature fuel cells (SOFC) to eliminate microcracks caused by thermal cycling. Surprisingly, there are no approaches to similar repair effects for other SOFC materials, since their performance is related to the degradation of active components (electrolytes and electrodes) due to aging, contamination and interfacial interactivity. Thus, this project intends to explore repair concepts that provide a prolongation of the lifetime of solid electrolytes in SOFC. The restorative effect will be developed in order to reverse the aging resulting from the operation, combating the effects of contamination, and even to allow the use of low purity precursors.
