Objectives :

This work aims to study and develop mortars incorporating additives that can promote new functionalities to this building material. It aims to improve the environmental quality and to delay the need for building maintenance. Particularly, materials that contribute to a better indoor life quality will be addressed in this work. Additives with photo-catalytic activity, to be able to give air-purifying function to the mortars, as well as additives based on PCMs to act upon the thermal comfort of buildings will be used as starting materials in this study. Specific objectives involve: 1. To incorporate photocatalytic nanoparticles and PCMs in mortars without degrading its relevant properties. 2. To understand the photocatalytic reaction process in the building materials (mortars). 3. To understand and optimize the PCMs function inside mortars. 4. To develop smart functional mortars, selecting the most adequate types and its application methods to fulfil the project objectives.
